Drawing Plants and Animals

Today's watercolor sketch is done from life. It is of part of a coleus plant that hangs from my studio porch and is done on 140 lb. Arches cold press paper.

Yesterday, Jerry brought me home some Queen Anne's Lace, so I did this quick watercolor study.

I love the Acacia trees that grow in Africa.

Here's another coloring page to print out.

And another line drawing where you could add your own background.

You could color this contour drawing if you want to print it out too!

I did the Spirit Bear line drawing from last week on Yupo paper in watercolor.

And of course, I can't forget my little flying jewels!

Here's an elephant figurine I have.  This is a watercolor drawing of it in my Sensational Sketches in Six Steps Technique.

I hope you are all having a great summer and are finding some time to create!

Wishing You Happiness and Inspiration,

As always, your feedback is most appreciated, thank-you.

  1. Sandy.......these are ALL wonderful!!! Like you I love the trees of Africa. I have a friend in South Africa who paints in watercolor. Her love is the wildlife to paint and share with people.

I've wanted to attempt my coleus but haven't yet. Love the vivid color you have in yours!!! And, I love the Queen's Anne Lace and how you worked the background making it pop!!!

Your hummingbirds have always been and continue to be my favorite. No one I've seen surfing the internet comes even close to depicting hummingbirds as you do!!

  2. Good morning Susan! The coleus was a real challenge, but I'd like to tackle it again. Warning: It was hard to stay focused on the whole composition without getting distracted by all the interesting details. That's why I settled for just a snippet of it. I'll try a little more of it next time. Thanks so much for your kind comments my friend! Have a great day and happy creating! xo Sandy

    1. Ha Ha Nora! Thanks! I've not as busy as usual, though. It's hard to stay focused with four cute, bouncy 7 week old kittens in my studio! Half of my day is spent playing with them! (I'm grateful I can enjoy them now though. They grow up so fast.) Loved your post today with the peachy keen black!

  5. Adjustments, notes and drawings will be formed with as-assembled drawings and this will portray the real fabricated design, which keeps breaks from emerging with the general development.
