Awaken Your Emotions

"The purpose of the artist is simply to reproduce in others' minds the impression which a scene or subject has made upon them. A work of art does not appeal to the intellect. It does not appeal to the moral sense. Its aim is not to instruct, not to edify, but to awaken an emotion."
~ George Inness

More Than A Hobby

"Sketching and painting is much more than a pastime or hobby.
It is a way to place our energy, feelings,
and soul before the viewer."

Don't Just Exist

"Don't just learn, experience.

Don't just relate, advocate.
Don't just promise, prove.
Don't just criticize, encourage.
Don't just think, ponder.
Don't just take, give.
Don't just see, feel.
Don’t just dream, do.
Don't just hear, listen.
Don't just talk, act.
Don't just tell, show.
Don't just exist, live.”

A Magical World

“I can’t imagine anything better that might happen in a person’s life than for them to start paying attention to birds. A World Without Insects

"Who has decided – who has the right to determine for the countless regions of people who were not consulted, that the supreme value is a world without insects, even though it would also be a world ungraced by the curving wing of a bird in flight?"

~ Rachel Carson, Silent Spring, 1962

Some Silly Sketching

I keep thinking of this quote by Dr. Suess, “In my world, everyone's a pony and they all eat rainbows and poop butterflies!” So I decided to do more silly sketching. Embracing silliness isn’t foolish and can reduce stress and promote a sense of joy and playfulness. Engaging in silly sketching is not a stupid exercise. It can reduce stress while fostering creativity, innovation, and fun! This is today's Drawing Everyday Watercolor and Ink Sketch called 'Some Silly Sketching' I'll be posting my sketches regularly on our Facebook Drawing Everyday Group throughout the summer. You are welcome to join, even if you don't draw. ✍️

And In The End ...

"In the end, there is no ideal condition for creativity.
What works for one person is useless for another.
The only criterion is this: Make it easy on yourself.
Find a working environment where the prospect of
wrestling with your muse doesn't scare you, doesn't
shut you down. It should make you want to be there,
and once you find it, stick with it.
To get the creative habit, you need a working environment
that's habit-forming. All preferred working states,
no matter how eccentric, have one thing in common:
When you enter into them, they compel you to get started."
~ Twyla Tharp

99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall

"Anything scarce is valuable; praise for example."

This song came to mind today as I was getting ready to post the drawings I've done so far this month. The song really has nothing to do with drawing everyday, other than I was thinking, that if I keep sketching everyday until Sept. 7th, it will be 99 days of drawing everyday. And ... I thought the title might just catch someone's attention, because the drawings surely haven't been a big hit with anybody this summer. Nobody seems interested or excited about drawing or the daily drawing project, except for me. That's okay though. I'm used to following my own drum beat and doing my own thing. As an art career lifer,  I think I'm really way over the need for validation these days. Anyway, here's the video I found. I thought you might like it and find it entertaining, especially if you are a beer lover, like me. You can check out my last 17 days of sketches, listed below, only if you care to,  afterwards....
