Some Silly Sketching

I keep thinking of this quote by Dr. Suess, “In my world, everyone's a pony and they all eat rainbows and poop butterflies!” So I decided to do more silly sketching. Embracing silliness isn’t foolish and can reduce stress and promote a sense of joy and playfulness. Engaging in silly sketching is not a stupid exercise. It can reduce stress while fostering creativity, innovation, and fun! This is today's Drawing Everyday Watercolor and Ink Sketch called 'Some Silly Sketching' I'll be posting my sketches regularly on our Facebook Drawing Everyday Group throughout the summer. You are welcome to join, even if you don't draw. ✍️

A LoveThat Lasts A Lifetime

They are a love that lasts a lifetime.”

Racing Into Your Heart

“I’m not fond of small babies.
I would rather give birth to a kitten or a little pony. “

Stay Young At Heart

Pablo Picasso once said, “It takes a long time to become young.”

This may seem lighthearted, but it's actually a deep thought about staying playful and creative while nurturing your inner child and creative spirit. Today’s sketch was inspired by this quote, “In my world, everyone's a pony and they all eat rainbows and poop butterflies!” ~ Dr. Seuss 😍 See more about this drawing here in yesterday’s post. 💜🌈🦋

My Little Pony

As anyone who follows me online knows, I am a quote-aholic. I often spend a good deal of time searching for just the right one to accompany my artwork. Occasionally, a quote inspires me to create something, like the following one attributed to Dr Suess.
“In my world, everyone's a pony and they all eat rainbows and poop butterflies!”
🌈 🦋
Lol, I bet you can guess where this one is going! This quote reminded me of ‘My Little Pony’.  Although I never had much exposure to MLP before, and just learned that they’ve been around since the early 1980s! I found this YouTube tutorial and it was so much FUN! Why don't you give it a try? *My Little Pony ~ Friendship is magic ~ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=302KXlpagA0 I also followed the next video that came up. *Pusheen Cat ~ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RG5BEoejrJw Drawing Is FUN!!

A Shetland Pony Mother And Foal

“Many actors want to play Hamlet and Macbeth.
Ever since I became an actor, from the
very beginning, I just wanted to play a Shetland pony.
I cannot explain why.”
~ Dustin Hoffman

Just Horsing Around

"When you’re partying and horsing around, remember at the same time,
somebody else is working hard. They are growing, getting smarter,
and will be more prepared for success.”

Desire Is A Wild Horse

"Desire is a wild horse to be tamed. Virtue is a habit long continued.
The taming of desire is like the training of an athlete. Discipline is
not the restraint but the use of energy."
~ Guy Davenport

SE 2a ~ First, I drew my subject in pencil, then added permanent ink.

"I have never been more in tune with my creative muse than when I have been sketching every day. Drawing consistently, each day for six weeks or more, takes great desire and the discipline to fit it into your daily life. I firmly believe that drawing is an important skill that sharpens many abilities as an artist. Learning to draw is learning how to really see." ~ Sandy Sandy  🏇🧘‍♀️🏆  Go to:  https://www.facebook.com/groups/SketchingEveryday/ for more information and to post your own images!

A Kitten, A Horse and Two Hummingbird Drawings

Pencil Drawing - Opie Darling III
I did this pencil drawing this morning from one of the shots of my new little ginger kitten. As my friend Nan says, I'm smitten with my kitten(s)! Several photos of Opie are now available for license on iStock here! Maybe he'll even be a calendar kitten someday.

"It is impossible to keep a straight face in the presence of one or more kittens."  ~ Cynthia E. Varnado

I drew this cute little horse knickknack on Friday.

2 minute gesture drawings
As usual, I put the figurine up high, close to eye level. I then gave it a quarter turn every two minutes. Isn't he cute? He reminds me of my pinto, Rudy.

Drawing a Horse

With tracing paper, I went over yesterday's sketch to show you how I used simple shapes as the framework of this horse's head and neck in profile view.

This is a drawing from a photo of my mare's sire, Oldenburg Stallion, San Diego. He was kidnapped about 10 yrs. ago by a crazy veterinarian in Illinois along with two other horses. San Diego was recovered unharmed in Florida with the help of my photos which were widely distributed online and throughout the horse show circuit. The vet was caught and put in jail when the owner of the barn that she was leasing saw her putting black spray paint on San Diego's distinguishing white markings. It made National news and created quite a stir in the horse community.

A Very Busy Day

. . . Of Sketching that is!  ☺ I got out all my how-to-sketch-horses books today and looked them over. Some I have had since grade school! (almost antiques now, I guess.) I read through all of them and got even more excited about sketching horses than ever before! I am coming up with my own formula.

I think that if you learn how to draw a horse, (like the human body) you can draw just about anything. In college, my illustration teacher, Beth Krush, always said how I was really lucky to know horses so well, because they were so hard to draw correctly. I am hoping to get even better at drawing them this summer as I study their anatomy and their physiology.

I hope some of you all will enjoy my sketching journey as well! Today I did some more 2 minute gesture drawings too.
